A new exhibition in Guangzhou invites visitors to rediscover historic Canton, an old name for Guangzhou, through the delicate art of pith painting, a traditional southern Chinese craft once popular with overseas traders.

"Flowing Light Treasury: Pith Painting Exhibition" is being held at Garden Hotel Museum. The show presents more than 20 works by Yan Kangping, a fourth-generation inheritor of pith painting, exploring themes of maritime trade, Lingnan nature and everyday street life.
Pith paintings are created on thin slices of plant pith, a material known for its soft texture and luminous color. The exhibition brings together traditional forms and contemporary interpretations, including youth-oriented works inspired by lion dances and traditional Cantonese music.

Alongside the exhibition, workshops and cultural forums will be held to offer visitors a hands-on experience of this intangible cultural heritage art form.
