Hu Yinping solo exhibition:

Xiaofang Global Universe Bank—Langtou Branch

胡尹萍個展

小芳宇宙銀行——塱頭分行

Born in 1983, Hu Yinping is known for socially engaged projects that blur the line between art and everyday life. This exhibition offers an accessible look at how traditional craft can open up conversations about technology, labor and value in contemporary China.

Hu works closely with her mother and a group of women from her hometown, inviting them to crochet objects that respond to contemporary life. Here, the focus is on the idea of a "universe bank." As digital technology, algorithms and virtual currencies reshape daily life, participants imagine alternative currencies for fictional countries such as "Foodie Nation" or "Cyberpunk Nation." These handmade banknotes, created from yarn, reflect both curiosity and a sense of anxiety about rapid technological change.

The exhibition space is designed like a playful bank, with themed halls displaying crocheted currencies, treasured personal objects and documentary videos. Visitors move through the space as if exploring how value is created and exchanged.

The exhibition features 180 Egyptian artifacts, including 167 items on display in Asia for the first time, alongside 26 treasures from the Nanyue King Tombs. To meet strict preservation standards, the exhibition is presented in phases: the first phase showcases 167 Egyptian objects, with 13 more added from May 2026, bringing the total to 180 and introducing Egyptian society—from power structures and writing systems to daily life and beliefs about mortality—to Guangzhou audiences.

Visitors can explore a full-scale VR reconstruction of the Giza Plateau in Pyramid Mirage, while AI reconstructions and glasses-free 3D animations bring reliefs and scenes of daily life to life.

Nearly 400 themed cultural products—from intricate scarab bookmarks to collectible blind boxes—and 40 exquisitely crafted seals turn each visit into a hands-on, treasure-hunting experience, making millennia-old Egyptian civilization tangible and engaging for all ages.
