The "Contemporary Art Exhibition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" opened on August 29th at the Guangdong Museum of Art (Bai'etan), a highlight of the Fifth Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival. The exhibition is open to the public from August 29th to October 31st and marks a milestone in positioning the Greater Bay Area as an evolving hub for cultural exchange and artistic innovation.
Bringing together nearly 40 artists from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the exhibition is divided into three thematic sections: "Tidal Cycle: Cultural Lineages and Contemporary Expression," "Sharing Voices of Mountains and Rivers: Ecological Consciousness Under the Technological Gaze," and "Waters Interwoven: Self in Social Mirroring." Through these themes, it explores historical legacies, ecological awareness, and the spiritual dimensions of social interaction.

As the first major contemporary art exhibition curated specifically around the concept of the Greater Bay Area by the Guangdong Museum of Art, the show highlights four dimensions. It examines the contemporary expression of cultural heritage formed through long-standing exchanges across the three regions; presents cross-media experimentation that blends materials and technologies; situates local artistic practices within global dialogues; and fosters a shared cultural identity that reflects the interconnectedness and vitality of the Bay Area art community.

"The participating works not only embody regional cultural characteristics but also reveal the cross-cultural thinking and social responsibility of Bay Area artists in a globalized era," said Wang Shaoqiang, Director of the Guangdong Museum of Art. He added that the exhibition reflects both a retrospective on the region’s shared cultural structures and a forward-looking engagement with contemporary artistic practices.
