The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (GSO) and Xinghai Concert Hall jointly unveiled the GSO's 2026/2027 season on July 12. Running from September 2026 to July 2027, the new season will feature 19 concerts.

The centerpiece of the season is a year-long "Spotlight on Tchaikovsky" series comprising 10 concerts. The series will present all of Tchaikovsky's symphonies, including the Manfred Symphony, as well as his Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23, Piano Concerto No. 2 in G major, Op. 44, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, and other major works. The season will also feature the China premiere of Mother Earth, a piano concerto by Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say. In addition, more than 10 international artists will collaborate with the GSO for the first time, bringing further international highlights to the new season.

Beyond the "Spotlight on Tchaikovsky" series, the new season will present classic works spanning three centuries through a range of themed programs. The orchestra will mark the 270th anniversary of Mozart's birth with a dedicated concert. Other programs exploring the Austro-German symphonic tradition, French Romanticism, and 20th-century classics will feature works by Brahms, Bruckner, Bach, Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Debussy, Bartók, Mahler, Shostakovich, and other renowned composers. Together, these concerts will trace the development of Western classical music from the Baroque period to the modern era.

The new season will also welcome an impressive lineup of internationally renowned conductors and soloists. Berlin Philharmonic principal flutist Emmanuel Pahud, French pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Bertrand Chamayou, and violinist Leonidas Kavakos will either make their GSO debuts or return to perform with the orchestra. The acclaimed musicAeterna Choir from Russia will also make its GSO debut, joining the orchestra for a performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 13 in B-flat minor, Op. 113.
