The legendary English-language production of The Phantom of the Opera will return to Guangzhou from January 20 to February 8, 2026, marking a powerful comeback for one of the world's most celebrated musicals.

Hailed by international critics — "If you see only one show, make sure this is the one." (The Daily Mirror, UK) and "God's gift to musical theatre." (The Times, UK) — The Phantom of the Opera has captivated over 160 million audience members across 58 countries and 205 cities, earning more than 70 major theatre awards since its 1986 West End premiere starring Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman.
The upcoming China engagement presents the classic original version, featuring Harold Prince's iconic direction, Gillian Lynne's choreography, and Maria Björnson's legendary costume and set design. The production is presented by SMG Live, with SMC overseeing national operations, in collaboration with Crossroads Live and The Really Useful Group (RUG).

Adapted from Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera, the musical tells the haunting love story of the mysterious Phantom who lives beneath the Paris Opera House and his obsession with the young soprano Christine.
The 2025/26 international tour promises to bring this timeless masterpiece to new audiences in Guangzhou, inviting theatre lovers to experience its romance, mystery, and unforgettable music once again.
