City walk retraces poet Su Dongpo's footsteps in Huizhou

More than 2,500 walkers took part in a city walk in Huizhou, Guangdong province, on the morning of 8 February, retracing the historical footsteps of Su Dongpo, one of China’s most celebrated poets.

The 8.5-kilometer walk began at Dongjiang Park (东江公园) in downtown Huizhou and passed by several cultural landmarks, including Dayun Temple (大云寺), Dongjiangsha Park (东江沙公园), Dongpo Memorial Hall (东坡祠), Hejiang Pagoda (合江楼), Zhongshan Park (中山公园) and Zhuwu Lane (祝屋巷), before finishing at the Zhu Zhishan Museum (祝枝山馆).

Su Dongpo, also known as Su Shi, was a famous poet, writer and statesman of the Song dynasty. During his exile to Huizhou nearly 1,000 years ago, he lived among local residents and left behind poems, stories and landmarks that still shape the city’s cultural identity today.

Along the route, participants collected stamps and joined photo activities, linking the city’s present-day streets with its literary past. Organizers said the event aimed to let people experience Huizhou’s landscape and history through walking, celebrating both the city’s natural beauty and its long-standing cultural warmth.
