The Fengyi Flight Exploration Center (凤翼飞行探索馆), Zhongshan's first low-altitude aviation-themed science and tourism complex, has opened, offering visitors a hands-on journey into the world of flight, technology and aerospace innovation.
Located in Zhongshan Torch Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (火炬高新区), the Fengyi Flight Exploration Center is running a special aviation science program from August 1 to 31.
Spanning nearly 10,000 square meters, the center features nine themed exhibition zones covering aviation history, aerodynamics, propulsion systems, drone applications, aerospace manufacturing and model aircraft competitions.
Summer program highlights
The center will host a public open day on August 1, offering free admission to 1,000 visitors and debuting the "Lightning Time Machine Show," an immersive science performance blending physics, optics and mechanics.
The "Fengyi Soars" summer aviation program runs throughout August, offering more than 10 activities for young people and families, including aviation-themed patriotic education tours, flight principle demonstrations and low-altitude aviation experiences.
More summer science offerings
Two other venues are also hosting educational programs this summer:
- Xinxuan Emergency Fire Safety Science Base (鑫轩应急消防科普研学基地) in Minzhong Subdistrict (民众街道) offers 6,000 square meters of indoor space and 3,000 square meters of outdoor space, with hands-on activities such as simulated smoke escape, CPR training and stretcher drills.
- National Defence Education Expo Park (国防教育博览园) at 163 Bo'ai Seventh Road (博爱七路163) is running its "I Am a Special Forces Soldier" summer camp through Aug 20, 9:00–16:00 daily, featuring tank rides, flight simulators, simulated shooting and mortar demonstrations.
For families looking to swap screen time for hands-on discovery, Zhongshan's summer science scene offers plenty of altitude in more ways than one.
