At a tourism promotion and cooperation conference held on June 30, a tourism ambassador for Jiangcheng District introduced a distinctive cultural study itinerary titled "Ancient City Millennium Trail." The walkable route is designed to immerse visitors in the district's rich historical and cultural fabric heritage across centuries.
Thematic itinerary: Ancient city millennium trail
Route: Nan'en Road (南恩路) → Yangjiang Confucian Academy (阳江学宫) → Taifu Road (太傅路) → Hedi Road (河堤路) → Xilai Scenic Area (西濑风情景区)
Highlights of the route:
- Nan'en Road: Visitors can stroll along bluestone pavements and admire the intricate carvings on arcade-style verandas, experiencing the layered history of a street with roots stretching back a thousand years.

- Yangjiang Confucian Academy: Built in the Song Dynasty, this well-preserved academy features ancient structures. Its grand hall showcases a traditional gable-and-hip roof with dragon-boat ridges, offering a tangible link to centuries of Confucian scholarship.

- Taifu Road: Local elders share oral tales from the Song Dynasty, recounting legends of loyalty and the area's millennium-old commercial spirit.

- Hedi Road: At night, the riverside promenade comes alive with the down-to-earth bustle of local street-food culture, reflecting the warmth of everyday life in Jiangcheng.

- Xilai Scenic Area: Known as a "living museum" of Lingnan water towns, this area is bordered by rivers on three sides and features ten ancient docks and stone bridges. Visitors can rest beneath banyan trees and enjoy the scenic waterfront.
The trail leads participants through streets dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, where they can appreciate Confucian heritage amid historic architecture and imagine the busy wharves and bustling crowds that once defined this ancient trading port.
This route is positioned as a key cultural and educational product for domestic and international study tours, integrating history, architecture, and living traditions.
