Guangzhou rakes in 20.1b yuan tourism revenue during CNY holiday

Guangzhou received 20.1 million visitor trips during the Chinese New Year period, generating an estimated tourism revenue of 20.1 billion yuan.

These figures represent year-on-year increases of 9.3 percent and 11.6 percent respectively, according to a post on Guangzhou Fabu, a Wechat public account of Guangzhou municipal government.

Guangzhou has long been a popular travel destination during the CNY holiday period, thanks to its sunny weather and rich traditional culture. This year, the government organized approximately 2,000 festival events that blended modern spectacle with deep-rooted traditions, creating a unique CNY vibe.  

The most popular attractions included:  

The CNY fireworks show at Bai’etan illuminated the Pearl River sky with over 150,000 fireworks. The display was broadcast or streamed live on more than 70 media platforms, drawing an audience of about 12 million online viewers. Related topics dominated local trending lists on Weibo, amassing over 20 million impressions.

The Dawan Chicken Olympiad Carnival, which centered on the beloved mascots of the 15th National Games, entertained over 60,000 visitors throughout the festival.

The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival, which showcased works by intangible cultural heritage artisans, proved highly popular and received nearly 200,000 visits.

Flower markets were held across Guangzhou, incorporating traditional culture, performances, and local cuisines, with highlights including the Tianhe Flower Market Carnival and the Liwan Flower Market on Water.
