800,000 bunches of chrysanth harvested daily in Yangjiang's "Chrysanthemum Village"

As the Qingming Festival approaches, Qigu Village, known as "Chrysanthemum Village", in Tanshui Town, Yangchun County-level City, Yangjiang, has entered its busiest season for chrysanthemum harvests. Farmers carefully pick the flowers, which are then graded, bundled, and packed in sorting sheds.

Qigu Village is the core chrysanthemum cultivation area in Tanshui Town, covering 1,200 mu (around 80 hectares), about 80% of the town's planting area. Currently, roughly 800,000 bunches are harvested daily and sold nationwide through channels including Guangzhou's Lingnan Flower Market, attracting buyers from across the country.

Local farmers report higher yields and improved quality this year, with an average of 60,000 bunches per mu (about 900,000  bunches per hectare), a 20 percent increase from last year. "A buyer from Guizhou ordered 30,000  bunches early this morning, ready for shipment by this evening," said farmer Xie Hesheng. On-site purchases by buyers from Yunnan, Hangzhou, and beyond have further facilitated sales.

Since last year, local authorities and village officials have organized training sessions on pest control and cultivation techniques, helping improve both quality and yield. In 2025, the village's chrysanthemum output exceeded 70 million yuan, benefiting 130 households.

The village also promotes off-season cultivation in greenhouses and extends the chrysanthemum industry chain with products including vinegar, cakes, and wine. Cultural and tourism projects, such as scenic corridors, cultural squares, study-tour bases, and heritage centers, are underway to integrate production, processing, and local tourism.
