A sea of pink cherry blossoms has burst into bloom in Xiashuiwei Village, Magui Town, Gaozhou, Maoming City (茂名市高州马贵镇下水尾村) as winter mist still lingers over western Guangdong, offering an early taste of spring and drawing visitors from the Pearl River Delta and beyond.
The village is dotted with winter cherry trees lining creeks, hillsides, and country paths nestled in the mountains, serving as a key attraction.
"Since the Yangxin expressway (阳信高速) opened, many more tourists have come this year,"a local villager said with a smile.
Xiashuiwei Village is the gateway to the Gaozhou Motian Town eco-tourism Area (高州摩天小镇), a sprawling 17.2-square-kilometer scenic zone nestled in the Yunwu Mountain range (云雾山脉).
The area is home to three peaks soaring over 1,000 meters: Huangcaoding (黄草顶), Motianding (摩天顶), and Dabiding (大壁顶), with 83.9 percent forest coverage and rare alpine meadow landscapes unique to Guangdong. Hikers who reach the summits are rewarded with panoramic views stretching across Gaozhou, Xinyi, and Yangchun.
Culture lovers can explore film sets left by the production of Madame Xian (冼夫人), including ancient-style military camps and gate towers, offering a glimpse into the legacy of legendary heroine Xian Furen.
