Since January 2, due to the influence of persistent strong cold air, the Huangniushi Nature Reserve in Lianping County, Heyuan City, has experienced its most pronounced rime ice formations in recent years—a phenomenon that occurs when supercooled raindrops freeze upon contact with surfaces. The crystal-coated trees, resembling a frozen wonderland, have attracted large numbers of visitors and photography enthusiasts.

Heyuan is located in the mountainous northeastern part of Guangdong. Its rugged terrain makes it particularly vulnerable to freezing conditions during winter cold surges. According to the local Meteorological Bureau, the coming week will remain sunny and dry, with significant day–night temperature variations. Morning lows are expected to stay below 5°C, with frost likely in northern and high-altitude areas.

Authorities have issued reminders that, while the rime ice presents a stunning sight, the mountain trails are prone to becoming icy and slippery. Visitors are urged to take precautions against the cold and potential slips, and to remain on designated routes to ensure their safety.
