As temperatures rise and spring blooms unfold, Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin is rolling out a suite of ecological destinations aimed at short-distance, nature-based tourism. Positioned as a leisure extension of nearby Macao, the island is highlighting its mix of coastal scenery, wetlands and green corridors as part of a seasonal push to attract visitors.

Along the coastline, theHengqin Flower Corridor stretches for several kilometres, lined with bougainvillea and roses in full bloom. The area has become a popular spot for cycling and picnicking, while a seaside viewing point further along the route draws visitors at sunset for waterfront views.

Further inland, the Hengqin Mangzhou Wetland Park offers a contrasting landscape. Spanning over 60 hectares, the park features winding footbridges, reed beds and bird-watching platforms. Elevated walkways provide panoramic views of the wetlands, where light rain and mist can lend the area a distinctive water-town atmosphere.

At the Hengqin National Wetland Park, mangrove forests form the heart of a larger ecosystem supporting a diverse array of bird species. Wooden boardwalks extend into the reserve, offering close-up views of migratory species and tidal flats. The park is also promoted as an evening destination, with sunset light shimmering across the shallow waters.

On the banks of the Tianmu River, the Hengqin Rowing Park blends open lawns with waterfront access. The space is used for light outdoor activities such as kite flying and frisbee, offering a balance between recreation and tranquil landscape views.

For those seeking higher ground, the Xiaohengqin Mountain provides a network of hiking trails linking forest, coastline and urban areas. Observation points along the route offer panoramic views across Hengqin and towards Macao, while rest stops along the route allow visitors to pause and soak in the surroundings at a more relaxed pace.

Wrap up your day at the Hengqin Wharf Station, where restaurants and bars face the waterfront. As evening falls and the lighthouse comes into view, the site serves as a final stop for visitors looking to extend their stay beyond daytime excursions.
