The Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province recently designated Jiaoyi Bay in the Binhaiwan Bay Area as Dongguan's first provincial-level "Beautiful Bay."
Jiaoyi Bay, covering about 10.6 sq km of land and 10.4 sq km of sea, is one of Binhaiwan Bay Area's three main sections. The area adopts a sustainable ecological model—"one corridor, three green hearts, and three water systems"—to balance urban development with marine ecosystems, supporting high-quality growth in both the region and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
Creating open, modern coastal public spaces is key to the "Beautiful Bay" vision. Binhaiwan Bay Area features a 7.5 km coastal greenway and popular sites like Dongguan Golden Coast, Dongbao Park, and Binhaiwan Floral Sea, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors during the holidays.
Building on its pristine coastline, Binhaiwan Bay Area is transforming outdoor spaces into vibrant hubs for dining, entertainment, and culture. Notably, the "Our AI - Matchbox & Binhaiwan Starry Night Concert" at Dongguan Golden Coast attracted extensive attention of media in May, while the "Mid-Autumn Festival Under the Bright Moon" drew over 300,000 attendees.
Located at the mouth of the Maozhou River facing Qianhai, Dongbao Park once faced soil salinization and shoreline erosion. Through comprehensive river management, Binhaiwan Bay Area restored 450 meters of coastline—including 350 meters of ecological seawall—and created 6,000 sq meters of coastal wetlands, strengthening the foundation for the "Beautiful Bay."
In recent years, the Binhaiwan Bay Area has focused on improving water quality from river to sea by building sewage interception pipelines and dredging waterways. In 2023 alone, the "Clean Sea" team removed over 716 tons of waste and expanded cleaning to 937,000 sq meters. New mangrove habitats and native plants like autumn olive and Paulownia now help maintain over 60% green and blue coverage in Jiaoyi Bay.
