A new landmark is taking shape in Guangzhou's Panyu District. The Dazhengang Meteorological Tower, dubbed "Panyu's Canton Tower" by locals, has now surpassed the 100-meter mark, with its inner cylinder rising above 108 meters and its outer cylinder reaching 98 meters.

Located atop Dazhengang Hill in Nancun Town, Panyu District (番禺区南村镇大镇岗山), the tower itself will stand 178.5 meters tall, reaching an overall height of 335.25 meters when the hill's elevation is factored in. Together with the Canton Tower, it will form a distinctive pair of landmarks across Guangzhou's skyline.

Once completed, the tower will support high-precision meteorological monitoring, early warnings for extreme weather events and meteorological science outreach and exhibitions for the Pan-Pearl River Delta region.

The fifth floor will feature an immersive meteorological disaster experience hall, while the seventh floor will house an interactive exhibition featuring nearly a century of meteorological records from southern China. The 139-meter-high observation deck will offer 360-degree views of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At night, 28,000 LED nodes on the tower will transform real-time wind speed data into dynamic light patterns, turning the structure itself into a visual display of meteorological information.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027, with the tower expected to light up for the first time around the 2028 Spring Festival.
