Spring tea season unfolds across Shaoguan's mountains

Tea hills in Shaoguan are coming alive as warmer weather awakens fresh buds. Follow this spring tea guide to explore plantations, taste local brews, and experience tea culture throughout the city.

Meishan Ecological Tea Garden, Luokeng Town (罗坑梅山生态茶园)

Luokeng Town is home to over 40,000 ancient tea trees, some more than 800 years old. Its high-mountain black tea features a rich almond aroma and bright amber liquor.

Yanxishan Tea Farm, Lechang County-level City (乐昌沿溪山茶场)

Nestled in the Nanling Mountains at elevations ranging from 600 to 1,300 meters, this tea plantation in Lechang spans about 2,000 mu (approximately 133 hectares). It produces Baimao Tea (白毛茶), known for its fresh, mellow flavor and jade-green infusion.

Hongshan Tea Gardens, Renhua County (仁化红山镇茶园)

In Hongshan Town, Baimao Tea has been cultivated for over 1,200 years since the Tang Dynasty. The tea is prized for its plump buds, fine hairs and subtle orchid fragrance.

Shan Yu Shan Jian Tea Gardens, Nanmu Town (南亩山与山间茶园)

Nanmu Town features around 4,000 mu (about 267 hectares) of contiguous tea plantations, the largest in northern Guangdong. It boasts a tea-growing tradition that spans over a millennium.

Zhujiangyuan Tea Farm, Wengyuan County (翁源珠江源茶场)

In the high valleys of Wengyuan County, one of northern Guangdong's largest organic Longjing Tea (龙井茶) bases thrives amid misty mountains. Visitors can stay overnight in tea garden homestays for an immersive experience.

Yaoshanwang Chaxian Valley, Ruyuan County (乳源瑶山王茶仙谷)

Deep in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, this tea valley sits at elevations from 800 to 1,600 meters, surrounded by vast forests. The teas here are known for their lingering aroma and smooth aftertaste.

On March 28, a spring tea fair will open at Meishan Ecological Tea Garden, featuring tea ceremonies, tastings, bazaars and live performances. From March to May, themed tea tours will take place across Shaoguan, offering visitors a seasonal blend of nature, culture and flavor.
