The 12th Guangdong Liannan Yaopai Terraced Fields Rice-Fish Cultural Event (2026年广东·连南第十二届瑶排梯田稻田鱼文化活动) kicked off in Liannan Yao Autonomous County, Qingyuan City, on September 26, attracting tens of thousands of tourists to experience the autumn harvest in Yao ethnic villages.
The rice paddies turned into a lively fishing arena as tourists rolled up their trouser legs, waded into the muddy fields and competed to catch fish raised in the fields, filling the air with cheers and laughter.
The afternoon contest was just as lively, with ducks flapping about and piglets darting through the fields as contestants chased and cornered them. After the competition, participants returned with their "trophies" in hand.
A harvest fair also featured intangible cultural heritage products, local delicacies and agricultural specialties, offering visitors a taste of Yao culture and a chance to take home unique souvenirs.
