Huizhou's Gaotan Town promotes red-theme cultural tourism

The newly opened Hongdu Starry Sky Camp and five red-theme study routes in Gaotan, Huidong County, Huizhou City showcase the area's latest efforts in cultural tourism development. Gaotan has a profound revolutionary history.

Established in 1927 as one of China's earliest district-level Soviet governments, it is known as the "Red Capital of East River." Zhongdong Village preserves key historical sites, including Baiqing Tower, Marx Street, and Lenin Street.

The town promotes a "red-and-green" development model, leveraging its forest resources and "Forest Town" status. A 25-kilometer greenway network connects revolutionary sites with natural landscapes. In 2024, Gaotan welcomed 501,000 visitors, generating tourism revenue of 150 million yuan.

The first phase of the Hongdu Starry Sky Camp is now operational in Zhongdong Village, creating a composite space for accommodation and stargazing. Five new red-theme study routes connect major red landmarks throughout Huidong County, forming a distinctive tourism system.
