Dongguan's Songshan Lake brings nature into everyday life

What can a simple green space become in Dongguan's Songshan Lake? A spring science corner with "talking" mushrooms, a summer market of coffee and music, an autumn sports ground, and a winter birdwatching spot. The Songshan Lake Ecological Area is transforming green spaces into lively, everyday places that integrate nature into daily life.

Playing in the green

In spring at Yanling Wetland Park (燕岭湿地公园), residents plant golden bell trees and hang wish cards, turning tree-planting into a meaningful ritual. The same lawn can also become a "stress-release camp," offering DIY crafts, tea blending, and live music.

In summer, Yuehu Park (月湖公园) hosts a lively weekend market featuring car-boot stalls, live music, and family-friendly activities. At Yanling Wetland Park, NFC-enabled "mushroom" installations turn science learning into an interactive game. With six major parks functioning as outdoor classrooms and more than 30 nature courses offered year-round, the Songshan Lake Ecological Area has become a true "school of nature."

Exercising in the green

The Walking Challenge combines exercise with nature through marked walking routes and online check-ins. Participants can explore flower fields, woodlands, and lakes at their own pace. Weekly frisbee sessions have also become a popular social activity among young people. In winter, an orienteering event encourages participants to run while identifying ecological features along the way.

From science activities to creative markets, music, and sports, the Songshan Lake Ecological Area is bringing its green spaces to life—offering people relaxation and joy in nature.
