"White Castle" in Guangzhou's Liuhua Lake Park lit up at night again

The "White Castle" at Liuhua Lake Park (流花湖公园) in Guangzhou was lit up at night again. Warm lights trace the outlines of its domes, clock tower and arcades, illuminating the white-walled landmark against the night sky. Many visitors are making a special trip to the park to capture the scene.

Originally built in the late 1980s, the building became known among locals as the "White House of Liuhua Lake" for its white facade and European-style architecture.

A renovation and reinforcement project got underway in October 2025. Workers restored the building's original appearance, including its decorative moldings, windows, doors and railings, while upgrading its fire-safety systems, electrical systems and barrier-free facilities. Now that the building is illuminated once again at night, with the anticipation of its official reopening.

According to the park administration, the building will be repurposed for cultural exhibitions, public recreation and casual dining. It will open its doors to visitors rather than remaining a landmark that can only be admired from the outside.

Beyond the illuminated "White Castle," Liuhua Lake Park offers much more. The upgraded Rongyin Playground (榕荫游乐场) features refreshed family-friendly rides, while visitors can play chess at the lakeside chess pavilion or take a leisurely stroll along the walking trails around the lake.
