Guangdong unveils digital travel maps bringing culture and nature within easy reach

Guangdong has published a new set of digital travel maps designed to make the province's cultural and natural treasures easier than ever to explore. Unveiled in Guangzhou on November 25, the "Explore Guangdong" maps consolidate museums, libraries, galleries, scenic attractions, nature reserves, and botanical gardens from across the province into one intuitive platform.

The launch is part of the province's wider "Enjoy the Warm Winter in Guangdong" campaign running from November 2025 to March 2026, which aims to create immersive travel experiences that blend sports, culture, food, landscapes, and shopping.

Seven maps, one gateway to Lingnan culture

Built on the Amap platform, the maps offer a seamless, visual way to discover Guangdong. With a single search of "乐游广东" or "广东文旅地图" in the Amap app, users can instantly access seven themed maps: museums, libraries, cultural centers, art museums, tourist attractions, botanical gardens, and nature reserves. The system uses smart recommendations, route planning, and real-time updates to transform individual "points on a map" into curated "experience routes." Whether visitors are searching for coastal cycling paths, heritage workshops, forest hikes, or family-friendly science activities, the platform helps tailor journeys to their personal interests.

Culture within reach

Guangdong has integrated resources from all 21 cities:

• 61 major museums offering exhibition highlights, audio guides, and hands-on activities such as lion-dance workshops or archaeology camps.

• 93 libraries, where travelers can check opening hours, navigate directly to venues, and join seasonal reading events and lectures.

• 93 cultural centers presenting traditional crafts, performing arts, and community workshops.

• 24 key art museums with information on new exhibitions, curator tours, and digital galleries.

For travelers, this means a more accessible and interactive way to engage with Lingnan culture—moving beyond passive sightseeing to meaningful participation.

A window into Guangdong's biodiversity

The maps also spotlight 30 nature reserves and 20 botanical gardens, reflecting Guangdong's exceptional biodiversity. Visitors can learn about rare species such as Chinese white dolphins in the Pearl River estuary, sea turtles in Double Moon Bay, and black-faced spoonbills in Shenzhen. From the Danxia landforms of Shaoguan to wetlands in Zhuhai and Zhongshan, the province's landscapes highlight the harmony between nature and urban life. Nature parks and botanical gardens can be booked directly through Amap, while entry to many protected areas and educational programs can be reserved for free via the "广东林业" WeChat account.
