Picking fresh jabuticaba in Yunfu's Yuncheng District

With the jabuticaba harvest season now underway, an orchard in Shuimutang, Muyang Village, Yuncheng District, Yunfu, has reopened to the public, attracting tourists eager for a hands-on picking experience.

Rows of fruit-laden trees stretch across the orchard, with their glossy, grape-like jabuticabas ripening in the sun. Visitors wander among the trees with baskets in hand, tasting and picking the fresh fruit straight off the branches.

Known for its juicy pulp and distinctive fragrance, jabuticaba is considered a premium exotic fruit. Orchard owner Xiao Yan said the trees typically take around seven years to bear fruit and reach peak production after a decade. The orchard has two to four harvests a year, with April to May being the prime picking season. The growing popularity of jabuticaba has boosted both sales and rural tourism, while also creating jobs for nearby villagers.

The orchard plans to expand planting areas and enrich its rural tourism offerings, including sightseeing, fruit picking and family-friendly activities, to attract more urban tourists.
