According to China's Central Meteorological Observatory, typhoon Matmo, the 21st typhoon of the year, has moved away from Guangdong Province at 20:00 on October 5. Consequently, the Guangdong provincial flood control, drought relief and wind prevention headquarters has downgraded the provincial emergency response from Level I to Level IV at 08:00 on October 6.

As of 09:00 on October 6, Matmo was located over Chongzuo City in the Guangxi Province. It has weakened further, with maximum sustained winds near its center recorded at Force 8 (20 meters per second). The system is forecast to move west-northwest at 15-20 kilometers per hour while continuing to weaken. However, it is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Guangxi, Yunnan, and Guizhou Province.

With the direct impact of the typhoon over, weather conditions in Guangdong are expected to improve. The Guangdong Meteorological Observatory forecasts cloudy skies in the entire province generally with occasional (thunder) showers seen in some cities from the October 6 to the October 8.

Typhoon Matmo initially made landfall in Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong, around 14:50 on October 5. It then made a second landfall in Fangchenggang, Guangxi, around 01:10 on October 6.
