Heavy rains and winds hit Guangdong as Typhoon Mitag lands

Typhoon Mitag made landfall around 14:50 on September 19 near the coast of Shanwei city. It arrived as a strong tropical storm (wind force level 10; about 25 m/s). Authorities expect the typhoon to move slowly northwest (10–15 km/h), gradually weakening as it moves inland.

The storm is projected to bring heavy to torrential rainfall across broad parts of Guangdong, with localized areas experiencing extremely severe downpours. Concurrently, strong winds and high seas are expected to pose additional hazards. Emergency services have been warned to prepare for possible landslides, mudflows, river flooding, and urban inundation.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Ragasa (known locally as "桦加沙") is developing over the northwest Pacific. As of September 19, its center is located about 1,180 km east of Manila, with winds at tropical storm strength. Forecasts suggest Ragasa will intensify, potentially reaching super typhoon strength before entering the South China Sea around September 23–24. It may then affect western Guangdong and eastern Hainan, possibly making landfall around September 24–25, though its exact track remains uncertain.
