A cold front is sweeping through Guangdong Province, marking a significant shift from the recent warm weather. The cold air mass, expected to be moderate to strong, arrived in northern parts of the province early Saturday (December 13) morning and reached the Pearl River Delta, including downtown Guangzhou, around noon.

The cold front, interacting with moist southwestern airflow, is bringing widespread rainfall and a noticeable temperature decrease across Guangdong on December 13-14. Most areas will experience light to moderate rain, with localized heavy downpours. A widespread drop in daily average temperatures of 4-8 °C is forecast, accompanied by stronger winds with gusts potentially reaching force 5-7.
The lowest temperatures during this period are expected on the mornings of December 14 or 15. Northern Guangdong is forecast to see lows of 4-8 °C, with some areas potentially dropping below 5 °C. The high-altitude mountainous regions could see temperatures around 0°C, with local frost or ice possible. Southern coastal areas will experience milder lows of 13-15°C, while other regions will see lows between 8-12 °C.
Saturday (Dec 13) will feel particularly chilly and damp, with temperatures continuing to fall throughout the day. Evening temperatures are predicted to be lower than those in the morning.
Forecast details:
Dec 13: Overcast skies with light to moderate rain, locally heavy, across most of the province. Temperatures are falling steadily.
Dec 14: Northern and parts of the Pearl River Delta regions will see rain cease, turning cloudy to sunny. Other areas will still experience scattered light rain.
Dec 15: As the cold air moves out, temperatures will gradually rise. Southern coastal areas may see isolated drizzles under cloudy skies, while most other areas will be sunny to cloudy.
Guangzhou weather forecast for the next seven days:

Maritime warning:
Strong northeasterly winds are forecast for Guangdong's coastal waters from December 13 to the daytime of December 15, with gusts potentially reaching force 8-9. Mariners are advised to exercise caution.
Special notes:
The cold, wet conditions warrant appropriate clothing to guard against the chill.
Reduced visibility and slippery roads are possible in central and northern areas due to rain and mist.
The northernmost parts of the province, especially high-altitude areas like Jinzishan and Huanghoushan in Qingyuan, may see temperatures fall below 0 °C, creating favorable conditions for ice formation, rime, or frost. Authorities have indicated this could lead to winter scenery suitable for viewing, with necessary preparations.
Guangzhou has issued a cold weather yellow alert, and residents are reminded to stay warm during this wet and chilly weekend period.
