Feeling sticky the moment you step outdoors? Guangdong's ongoing spell of hot, humid "sauna weather" is showing little sign of easing.
According to the Guangdong Meteorological Service, muggy conditions are expected to persist in the coming days. From June 26 to 27, moderate thunderstorms are forecast for central and northern Guangdong, with heavy to torrential rain possible in some areas. Localized thunderstorms may also bring short-lived gusts of up to Force 8 on the Beaufort scale.
As rainfall becomes more widespread, the range of areas with temperatures above 35°C will shrink compared with June 24. Still, parts of central and southern Guangdong are expected to see highs above 35°C.

Weather forecast for Guangdong
From June 26 to 27, northern Guangdong, the central and northern Pearl River Delta, and eastern Guangdong will be cloudy to overcast, with moderate thunderstorms and isolated heavy to torrential rain. Elsewhere, skies will be mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Maximum temperatures will range from 34°C to 37°C in western Guangdong and the central and southern Pearl River Delta, while most other areas will see highs of 30°C to 34°C.

Why does "sauna weather" feel so hot?
"Sauna weather" refers to conditions marked by high temperatures, high humidity, and light winds, which make it feel much hotter than the actual air temperature.
Humidity is a major factor in how hot the weather feels. At 32°C, the apparent temperature already exceeds 35°C when relative humidity reaches 50%. When humidity reaches 100%, the apparent temperature can exceed 50°C.
Normally, the body cools itself as sweat evaporates. In humid weather, however, moisture-laden air slows that process, making it harder for the body to release heat. As heat builds up, the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke, increases. Residents are advised to take precautions and stay cool.
