Typhoon Saudel, the 18th typhoon of the year, formed over the northwestern Pacific on the morning of August 19. It is expected to track northwestward at 15–20 km/h, gradually intensify and head toward waters east of the Ryukyu Islands. No impacts on China's waters are expected over the next five days.

Meanwhile, the tropical convergence zone stretching from the South China Sea to waters east of Taiwan remains active, with two tropical disturbances showing signs of development. The disturbance over the South China Sea is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression on the night of August 19 and may make landfall along the coastline between eastern Hainan and the Leizhou Peninsula around August 20. The other disturbance, east of Taiwan, is expected to develop into a tropical depression around August 20 and move toward northern Taiwan and the coastal areas of eastern China's mainland provinces.
