Guangdong is set for cooler weather during the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, with a moderate cold front expected to arrive on February 16, Chinese New Year's Eve. The provincial meteorological bureau forecasts that the front will bring scattered rain and lower temperatures across the holiday period.

No widespread heavy rain or severe storms are predicted for the week. However, the region will be affected by two separate batches of cold air, the first moving in on the evening of the 16th, and a second, weaker one around February 22–23.
In the days just before the holiday, from February 13 to 15, conditions across Guangdong are expected to be warm and humid, with morning fog in some areas. As the initial cold front moves south from the 16th, temperatures are forecast to drop by 6–8°C in the northern parts of the province and by 3–5°C in central and southern areas. Isolated light rain is likely on February 17–18.
A brief warming trend is expected from February 19 to 21, followed by another dip in temperatures toward the end of the holiday week.
Forecasters have also warned of reduced visibility in the Qiongzhou Strait, a major waterway connecting Guangdong and Hainan. Dense fog, particularly on the mornings of February 15–16, may temporarily disrupt ferry services. Wind speeds in the strait are not forecast to exceed gale force during this period.
Travelers are advised to prepare for wet roads and the possibility of icy patches on highways, especially in northern Guangdong and neighboring provinces. Coastal and island tourism activities could also be affected by stronger winds, particularly around the 16th and again later in the holiday week.
