The tropical depression over the South China Sea intensified into Maysak, the 10th typhoon this year, in the early hours of Friday, July 3.
Typhoon Maysak made landfall along the coast of Hainan Province during the daytime on July 3, with winds reaching Force 9–10, equivalent to tropical storm or severe tropical storm strength. It is moving northwest at 10–15 km/h and is expected to intensify further.
According to Guangdong Weather (@广东天气), Guangdong is entering a high-risk weather alert period from July 3 to 5. Under the influence of the cyclonic system, the province will see widespread heavy rain and rainstorms, with extreme torrential downpours in some areas.

3-day regional weather forecast
On July 3, the central Pearl River Delta (PRD) and western Guangdong will see cloudy skies give way to localized severe rainstorms. The rest of the PRD and eastern Guangdong will experience moderate to heavy rain, while other regions will see thundershowers. Highs will range from 32°C to 34°C in coastal areas and 34°C to 36°C elsewhere.

On July 4, overcast skies, heavy rain, and localized extreme torrential downpours will affect western Guangdong, most PRD cities, Shaoguan, and Qingyuan. The remaining areas will see moderate to heavy rain. Highs will drop to 30°C–32°C in most areas.

On July 5, heavy rain and rainstorms will persist in Shaoguan, Qingyuan, western Guangdong, and most of the PRD. Other regions will see moderate to heavy rain. Highs will range from 29°C to 31°C across most of the province.

Rail suspensions
To ensure passenger safety, China Railway Guangzhou Group has adjusted train schedules.
On July 3, all trains on the Hainan Circular High-Speed Railway (海南环岛高铁) are suspended.
From July 3 to 4, some services are suspended on the Guangzhou–Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway (广湛高铁), Shenzhen–Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway (深湛高铁), and Guangzhou–Maoming Railway (广茂铁路).
Due to the suspension of ferry services across the Qiongzhou Strait (琼州海峡), the cross-sea sections of all trains entering or leaving Hainan Island have been canceled. Some services are suspended entirely, while others have been adjusted to originate from or terminate at Guangzhou Baiyun Station (广州白云站) or Zhanjiang West Station (湛江西站).
Passengers are advised to check the official 12306 website or mobile app for real-time updates on specific train cancellations and schedule changes.
With prolonged rainfall expected, residents are advised to carry umbrellas, keep track of official local weather warnings, and exercise caution when traveling outdoors.
