Guangdong is experiencing another spell of hot weather, but more frequent thunderstorms from September 21 should bring a slight drop in temperatures.
Jiaoling County in Meizhou recorded the province's highest temperature of 36.6°C on September 19, while Zijin County in Heyuan recorded the lowest at 21.4°C, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Service.
In Guangzhou, the temperature reached 35.7°C on September 19.
Thunderstorms to become more frequent
Most of Guangdong will remain sunny to partly cloudy on September 20, with isolated showers or thunderstorms, the provincial meteorological service said.
Highs are expected to reach 34–36°C in most parts of the province, while southern areas will see highs of 30–33°C.
As the subtropical high weakens on September 21–22, thunderstorms will become more frequent across the province. Some areas could see short-duration heavy rain and strong winds of around force 8 during thunderstorms.
Highs are expected to reach 30–32°C in southern areas and 33–35°C elsewhere on September 21. Temperatures are expected to ease slightly on September 22.

For Guangzhou, its meteorological observatory forecasts a gradual shift toward more unsettled weather over the coming week, with thunderstorms expected on several days.
