Guangdong to see temperature drop from February 8 to 9

Following unseasonably warm conditions that mimicked early summer shortly after the Beginning of Spring (February 4), a noticeable cold front arrived in Guangdong on February 7.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Observatory, the cold air mass continued its southward push on February 7, bringing scattered light rain to parts of the province and causing a further dip in temperatures. The lowest temperatures of this cooling period are expected on the mornings of February 8 or 9.

Some areas in northern Guangdong may experience lows below 5 °C, with mountainous high-altitude regions seeing 1-3 °C and a chance of localized frost or ice. Guangzhou is forecast to see a minimum temperature of around 9 °C. A gradual temperature recovery is anticipated to begin on February 10.

Detailed weather forecast

February 7: Scattered light rain will taper off to mainly cloudy skies in northern Guangdong and the northern parts of the Pearl River Delta. Other areas will be mostly cloudy with isolated drizzle. Morning (light) fog is possible in western coastal areas and maritime zones. Temperatures continue to fall. Lows: 7-12 °C in northern Guangdong (3-5 °C in high mountains), 16-20 °C in southern coastal cities, and 13-15 °C elsewhere.

The Guangzhou Meteorological Observatory predicts that a moderate-intensity cold air mass will affect the city until February 9. Conditions will be mainly partly to mostly cloudy, with average daily temperatures dropping by 5-8 °C. Wind gusts on land may reach force 4-6, and force 6-8 in port areas and on high ground.
