Chinese-Uruguayan student art exhibition opens in Shantou

The exhibition of outstanding student works, "Art Across Oceans: A Dialogue Between Chinese and Uruguayan Young Artists," opened on October 21 at the art museum of Shantou University's Cheung Kong School of Art and Design as part of the university's 45th anniversary celebrations. Running through November 15, the exhibition is being held simultaneously at the art museum of the Faculty of Arts at the University of the Republic (Uruguay).

For this exhibition, students from the two schools exchanged digital files of their artworks. Each school printed, mounted and displayed the works at its own art museum. More than 70 works by students from both schools are on display, spanning disciplines such as painting, design and digital media.

Professor Chen Yanqing, vice dean of Shantou University's Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, has long studied traditional Chinese color theory. He believes that traditional Chinese colors reflect Eastern philosophical thought and cultural values, while art from Uruguay and Latin America uses bold, vibrant colors to express the region's passion and vitality. Bringing these two artistic traditions together highlights their cultural differences while creating opportunities for dialogue and mutual inspiration.
