Foshan lion dance brings Chinese New Year celebrations to Sheffield in UK

A series of Chinese New Year performances took place in Sheffield, UK, featuring traditional lion dance from Foshan in southern China.

"This is our second time coming to Sheffield for the Chinese New Year celebratons. The event drew larger crowds than last year." On the afternoon of February 23, Li Nianzhong, Vice President of the Foshan Nanhai Huang Feihong Martial Arts Lion and Dragon Dance Association, returned home with his team after the performances.

The eight-member team traveled to the UK during the Chinese New Year holiday. The group was invited to perform as part of local community celebrations in Sheffield.

Speaking to local media, a resident described the Foshan lion dance performance as "amazing," repeating the word three times to emphasize their excitement. Locals said it was more impressive than similar shows they had seen in other UK cities, praising the performers' skill and energy.

The team represents Foshan, a city widely regarded as the birthplace of southern lion dance. According to the association, it has won more than 200 titles at competitions in China and abroad.
