Maoming couples wed at ancient hot spring ceremony

On August 29, during China's Qixi Festival, 12 couples tied the knot in a traditional ceremony at the Ancient Royal Hot Spring Resort in Dianbai District, Maoming City, south China's Guangdong Province, set against the scenic backdrop of the region's natural beauty.

Dressed in elegant Hanfu, the traditional attire of China, the couples walked the red carpet to an outdoor venue to receive their official marriage certificates. Guided by a master of ceremonies, they performed time-honored rituals such as the Fan-Lifting Ceremony (symbolizing modesty), the Jade Cup Unity Ritual (representing shared destiny), and traditional paper-cutting.

"Qixi celebrates the timeless love of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl," said one newlywed. "Getting married beside this ancient hot spring makes the day feel truly unforgettable."

With over a thousand years of history, the Ancient Royal Hot Spring is Maoming's eighth designated outdoor marriage registration site—and the first with a hot spring theme.

The initiative supports Maoming's strategy to boost its wedding industry by offering themed experiences—ranging from seaside romance to peony gardens—that blend coastal scenery with cultural heritage. By catering to young couples seeking personalized ceremonies, the city is promoting cultural tourism and driving local economic growth.
