The special exhibition "Huang Fei-hong: A Legend Under Heaven—The Birth and Evolution of a Lingnan Cultural Legend" opened at the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum in Malacca, Malaysia, on July 25.
The exhibition, co-hosted by the Foshan Ancestral Temple Museum and the Cheng Ho Cultural Museum, is open to the Malaysian public, school groups and international visitors free of charge.
Tracing Huang Fei-hong's transformation from a historical figure into a cultural icon, the exhibition is organized into 3 sections: his life in his hometown of Foshan, the making of his legend through folk narratives and the evolution of his image in Cantonese popular culture. Together, they chart how a Lingnan martial arts master became an international cultural symbol.
At the venue, crowds were attracted by Lingnan-themed cultural and creative products inspired by Foshan Lion Dance, Huang Fei-hong and dragon boat culture. Combining traditional intangible cultural heritage motifs with modern design, the products extend the exhibition experience beyond the displays. They offer a subtle way to tell Lingnan stories and help Malaysians form lasting connections with Chinese culture in everyday life.
The exhibition has received an enthusiastic response from local residents, especially young people. Student representatives from Johor and Perak attended the opening ceremony and toured the exhibition.
