The 2026 Charming China (Guangdong): Lingnan Culture Travels to the South Pacific event, a cultural showcase from Guangdong Province in southern China, made its debut in Samoa on August 4, bringing exhibitions, films, cultural products and new opportunities for media cooperation to the Pacific island nation.
Held as China and Samoa mark 51 years of diplomatic relations, the event brought together government officials, diplomats, members of the local Chinese community and Samoan residents at the Chinese Embassy in Samoa.
Opening the event, Chinese Ambassador to Samoa Fei Mingxing reflected on the long-standing ties between Guangdong and Samoa, highlighting Guangdong's support for the Museum of Samoa, cultural exchanges and medical cooperation as examples of the growing friendship between the two sides.

Samoan Minister of Education and Culture Hon. Aiono Dr. Alec Ekeroma thanked the Guangdong delegation and shared his experiences from previous visits to Guangdong, praising the province's achievements in cultural preservation and museum development.
Alongside the ceremony, visitors explored a photography exhibition organized by IP Guangdong, a global multimedia platform showcasing Guangdong through images and stories created by contributors from around the world. They also viewed a selection of Guangdong-made cultural and creative products.
The cultural showcase also featured the Samoan premiere of Dear You, a Guangdong-produced film inspired by the history of Chinese migration to Southeast Asia and the Qiaopi letter-remittance tradition. The screening struck a chord with viewers, who said the story resonated with their own family histories.

To support future cultural and educational exchanges, the Guangdong delegation donated more than 300 bilingual books, AI-powered educational devices, cultural products and documentaries to Samoan government departments.
The visit also paved the way for closer media cooperation. South signed a memorandum of understanding with Samoa's Talamua Media to strengthen collaboration in joint reporting, content sharing and media projects. Separate agreements will also enable broadcasters from Guangdong and Samoa to exchange television programmes, co-produce content and expand professional exchanges, bringing more stories from Guangdong to audiences in Samoa.
