Guangzhou welcomes Chinese New Year with showcase of Lingnan culture and Hanfu fashion

The "Guangzhou Inheritance of Attire Spring Festival Gala 2026" took place on February 11, 2026, at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, presenting a vibrant mix of Lingnan cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression. The event attracted a full house of local residents and international visitors, featuring lion dances, Cantonese opera, Hanfu fashion displays, and folk music performances.

Kicking off the evening, a lion dancing performance was delivered. Cantonese opera highlights included excerpts such as The Flower Princess: The Fragrant Death, performed by artists from Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theatre and Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theatre, underscoring the region's rich intangible cultural heritage.

A standout segment was the Hanfu fashion show, curated by Minghuatang Hanfu Customization and Wuwang Chinese Style Culture. The presentation showcased new designs inspired by historical attire, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern trends and highlighting Hanfu's growing influence in contemporary fashion.

As part of the city's annual "First Launch in Guangzhou 2026" initiative, the gala aimed to promote Guangzhou as a hub for cultural innovation. The event balanced heritage elements with contemporary presentations, reflecting the city's role in advancing Lingnan culture through modern platforms.
