Fish lanterns & martial fun light up Shaoguan's Danxia Mountain this Spring Festival

This Chinese New Year of the Horse, Danxia Mountain in Shaoguan, south China' Guangdong Province, welcomes the intangible cultural heritage fish lanterns from Anhui. The lanterns vary greatly in size—the longest is eight meters and needs six men to carry, while the one-meter-smallest can be held easily by one woman. They symbolize "surplus every year and a prosperous family".

The fish lantern parade is combined with the "Eternal Danxia" night cruise. The bright lanterns glide through the Visitor Center and Jinjiang River, mixing folk tradition with modern light effects.

Danxia Mountain launches nine themed activities from February 10 to March 3 (Lantern Festival), including "Board the Boat as a Martial Hero", "Lion Eye-Dotting Ceremony" and "Martial Arts Theater". Visitors can dress in ancient costumes, enjoy lantern hunting by Jinjiang River, join bonfire carnivals, and watch dragon dances, lion dances, water flyers and fire pot shows.

It takes just over 40 minutes to drive from downtown Shaoguan. Visitors can stay nearby after the night tour and explore Danxia Mountain's unique landscapes the next day.
