Puning Yingge dance to tour US, Russia and Spain during Chinese New Year

As the Chinese New Year approaches, the traditional Puning Yingge dance from Guangdong, China, is set to perform abroad, with shows scheduled in the United States, Russia, and Spain.

The Nanshan Yingge Troupe has been invited to perform at the Chinese New Year parade in Hawaii, the United States, at 9:00 a.m. local time on February 14. Meanwhile, the Fumei Youth Yingge Troupe will travel to Russia and Spain from February 15 to February 22, coinciding with the Chinese New Year period, to present traditional Yingge performances and share festive greetings with local audiences.

Yingge, literally "the Songs of Heroes," is one of the most representative folk arts in the Chaoshan region, which mainly includes Chaozhou, Shantou, and Jieyang. Based on the stories of the 108 heroes of Liangshan Mountain from the classic novel Outlaws of the Marsh, Yingge combines elements of opera, dance, and martial arts.

With a history of more than 300 years, Puning Yingge was included on China's first national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2006. In recent years, the dance has moved beyond local folk celebrations to become an iconic symbol of cultural exchange, with performances in countries such as the United Kingdom, Thailand, and Malaysia.
