In autumn 2026, the Guangzhou Song and Dance Theatre troupe toured Southeast Asia with two ethnic dance dramas, Awakening Lion and Yingge. The itinerary included Singapore, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Bangkok in Thailand.
The tour featured 15 performances, 8 cultural exchange events and 11 intangible cultural heritage exhibitions.
Many international audience members were also deeply moved by the performances.
Yingge is known as the "China's Warrior Dance." It follows a young man named Chen Xinyuan on a fantastical journey through time and space, retracing the struggles of his Chaozhou-Shantou ancestors as they migrated to Southeast Asia and portraying the profound sense of duty to family and country.
From Singapore through Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, both dance dramas received an enthusiastic response.
