The 5-day 37th Western Guangdong (Maoming) Opera Booking Fair and Cantonese Opera Art Exhibition recently concluded at Maoming Theater in south China's Guangdong Province.

Highlights included a special performance of large-scale opera excerpts by artists from the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theatre. Their flowing water sleeves, expressive movements, and melodious singing—ranging from stirring high notes to gentle low tones—brought classic characters vividly to life, captivating the audience.
A lineup of classic and newly adapted plays showcased a seamless blend of traditional charm and contemporary innovation. Audiences were fully immersed, tapping along to the rhythm and savoring the elegance of Cantonese opera.

The fair featured renowned troupes such as the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theatre, Jiangmen Cantonese Opera Training Institute, Nanning Youth Cantonese Opera Troupe, and Maoming Cantonese Opera Troupe. Distinguished artists, including first-class performers and Plum Blossom Award winners O Kaiming, Wu Feifan, and Cui Yumei, delivered a series of unforgettable performances.
Since its founding in 1989, the Western Guangdong (Maoming) Opera Booking Fair has celebrated 37 years of promoting Cantonese opera, connecting artistry with audiences, and fostering cultural heritage and industry development.
