On the afternoon of August 26, 2025, Shantou held the event "Full Integration with Guangdong's Four Major International Communication Platforms and 'Shantou Time' Showcase" at the broadcasting hall of the Shantou Media Convergence Group. The event comprehensively showcased Shantou's innovative efforts in leveraging provincial-level platform resources to create a two-way empowered international communication matrix.
As a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese, Shantou plays a unique role and bears significant responsibility within Guangdong's international communication system. Through full integration with the province's four major international communication platforms—IP Guangdong, INFO Guangdong, LIVE Guangdong, and GO Guangdong—Shantou will leverage its local resources and distinctive strengths to create a integrated media international communication matrix, including INFO Shantou (focused on information services for overseas Chinese), LIVE Shantou (slow live-streaming), GO Shantou (international visitation services), and IP Shantou (urban image communication resources).
To better integrate with "INFO Guangdong," Shantou has developed "INFO Shantou" based on the "Chaoshan Digital Virtual Homeland." This initiative designates Shantou University and the Shantou Overseas Experimental Zone as "INFO Guangdong & INFO Shantou International Community Service Hubs," providing targeted information services, one-stop guidance, and "one-click government services" for expats residing in or visiting Shantou. This digital platform offers overseas audiences a window to understand Guangdong, explore Shantou, and experience Chaoshan culture through integrated digital channels.
At the event, international students from the School of International Education at Shantou University, including NAYADA YHOOTOH (Thailand) and SHANAZAR GULYYEV (Turkmenistan), along with foreign faculty member TESFAYE HAILEMARIAM BARKAE (Ethiopia), were appointed as Shantou's "Global Promotion Ambassadors." Together, they extended a heartfelt invitation to the world: "Shantou welcomes you."
Currently, in addition to the Small Park area, Shantou has added three more locations—Donghai Coast and Nan'ao Bridge—to the "LIVE Guangdong" slow live-streaming platform, broadcasting the authentic urban landscape of Shantou in real time. During the event, the host connected live with a reporter covering the cultural tourism experience of the "Yingge Cultural Carnival for the 15th National Games" in the Small Park area, showcasing real-time footage of tourists exploring the park and experiencing the vibrant Yingge cultural performances.
"GO Guangdong" is an international visitation service platform, on which Shantou's popular landmarks—the Chen Cihong Former Residence (陈慈黉故居) and the Shantou Qiaopi Museum (侨批文物馆) —have been included in the province's key visitation routes. Shantou will develop a series of curated "GO Shantou" routes, focusing on the intangible cultural heritage of the Chaoshan region, overseas Chinese culture, distinctive local industries, and green ecological attractions. Shantou welcomes friends from around the world to visit and experience its unique cultural and natural charm.
"IP Guangdong" serves as a public platform for creating and promoting Guangdong's cultural identity. Shantou has already onboarded its first 30 "City Content Creators," who are actively contributing to the platform. The event showcased selected works from the "Shantou Shine" urban image campaign and launched the initiative "I Love Shantou, Let's Capture It Together," inviting global content creators and comic enthusiasts to share their perspectives of the city.
With the "door" now open, the "Shantou Time" showcase week has officially launched. Over the next week, "LIVE Guangdong" will feature daily themed segments during its designated "Shantou Time" slot, presenting the charm of Shantou to global audiences. Meanwhile, the "GO Shantou: Vibrant 15th National Games" media tour has commenced, taking journalists to explore key venues of the 15th National Games and "Perfect Shantou" highlights, showcasing the dynamic spirit of the Shantou Special Economic Zone and the rich heritage of the overseas Chinese community.
