Dragon-shaped kung fu disciples gather in Huizhou for martial arts exchange

Dragon-shape kung fu disciples from the United Kingdom, Ireland as well as China's Hong Kong and Guangzhou recently visited Xiaojinkou Subdistrict in Huicheng District, Huizhou, for a martial arts exchange with members of the Huizhou Dragon-Shape Kung Fu Association. They performed together and discussed how to preserve and develop the century-old art.

Xiaojinkou is regarded as an important ancestral home of dragon-shape kung fu, with a long martial arts tradition and a clear lineage. Senior overseas practitioners opened the exchange with a demonstration, showing the powerful movements, agile footwork and steady stances typical of traditional southern Chinese boxing. Visitors and local disciples then examined and tried out traditional weapons, demonstrated techniques and compared notes on training and practical combat experience. They also exchanged pennants as a token of friendship.

The overseas visitors praised Xiaojinkou's long-term work to keep the art alive, offer tiered training and build facilities, saying the ancestral home has a solid foundation and a promising new generation.

During the event, participants visited Houwang Temple in Yingtou Group, Jinji Village, where Grandmaster Lin Yaogui once taught dragon-shape kung fu. They stopped to pay their respects and trace the history of the master's teaching, the art's origins and its spread.

Participants also renewed friendships, reviewed the century-long history of the art and discussed overseas promotion and innovative development. The cross-regional and cross-border exchange has built a platform connecting dragon-shape kung fu disciples at home and abroad, helping Lingnan traditional martial arts culture go global and be passed down through generations.
