Huazhao Festival to be celebrated at Xinghu Scenic Area in Zhaoqing

A Huazhao Festival celebration will take place at Xinghu Scenic Area (星湖旅游景区) in Zhaoqing from March 28 to 29.

The festival will be held across two scenic venues, with Dinghu Mountain scenic spot (鼎湖山景区) serving as the main site and Seven Star Crags scenic spot (七星岩景区) as a secondary venue.

Also known as the Flower Goddess Festival, the Huazhao Festival is a traditional Chinese spring celebration marking the "birthday of flower goddess", typically observed around the 15th day of the second month in the Chinese lunisolar calendar. Customs such as flower viewing, honoring the flower goddess, spring outings and Hanfu gatherings reflect people's appreciation of nature and hopes for a flourishing season.

On March 28, activities will take place at Baoding Garden and Butterfly Valley in Dinghu Mountain, while on March 29, celebrations will move to the Lihu lakeside route at the Seven Star Crags (七星岩). Highlights include a grand parade featuring performers portraying celestial figures and the twelve flower goddesses and gods in elaborate traditional costumes. A recreated flower-worship ritual, music performances blending traditional Chinese styles with rock, and intangible cultural heritage acrobatics will further enliven the festival.

Visitors wearing Hanfu may enjoy special admission perks during the event. For more details, the public can follow updates from the scenic area's WeChat account "星湖美美".
