A highlight of this year's event is the launch of a grading system for Gambiered Guangdong Silk, which classifies the fabric into premium, first-grade and second-grade tiers, offering clearer quality standards for buyers and consumers.
The system follows the release of the Xiangyunsha Category and Grading Specification in Lunjiao, Shunde, last year. The grades are certified through an independent process rather than self-declared by producers.
To support the initiative, Lunjiao Subdistrict established Foshan Shunde Yunsha Xinxu Xiangyunsha Enterprise Service Co., Ltd. to lead the development of the standards system. Working with the Guangdong Testing Institute of Product Quality Supervision and intangible cultural heritage masters Huang Tiansheng, Chen Weiming and Zhou Xiaogang, the project aims to strengthen the reputation of authentic Shunde-made Xiangyunsha.
The 2026 Shunde Xiangyunsha China-Chic "Intangible Cultural Heritage" Experience Festival runs from April 30 to May 5, featuring fashion shows, creative food markets, traditional-style parades, crossover performances combining folk music and electronic music, motorcycle culture activities and hands-on Xiangyunsha workshops. Nearly 30 local brands are showcasing innovative Xiangyunsha fabrics, China-chic fashion, heritage-inspired cultural and creative products.
During the May Day holiday, visitors can explore Lunjiao, Shunde, shop for authentic Gambiered Guangdong Silk and experience how this centuries-old craft is finding new life in the modern era.
