Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Xinghai Concert Hall renew strategic partnership for three more years

On the afternoon of April 26, Xinghai Concert Hall hosted a highly anticipated debut: Tarmo Peltokoski, the talented post-2000s conductor and Music Director Designate of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil), led the orchestra in his first-ever performance on the Chinese mainland.

Following the concert, Xinghai Concert Hall and the HK Phil signed a new strategic cooperation agreement. This series of high-profile performances is set to bring significant cultural enrichment to audiences in Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Ranked among Asia's top ensembles, the HK Phil made history in 2019 as the first Asian orchestra to win the prestigious Gramophone Orchestra of the Year award. That same year, the HK Phil entered into a strategic partnership with Xinghai Concert Hall. Since then, it has delivered numerous well-curated and widely acclaimed classical music feasts for music lovers across the GBA.

As a flagship cultural venue in the GBA, Xinghai Concert Hall renewed its strategic partnership with the HK Phil this April, coinciding with the arrival of the orchestra's new Music Director. This follows their successful initial collaboration launched in 2019.

Both parties jointly announced the continuation of their close strategic partnership for the next three years, effective immediately. Under the baton of Tarmo Peltokoski, the HK Phil will present co-curated concerts with its full orchestra at Xinghai Concert Hall, further developing the "HK Phil at Xinghai Concert Hall" series—the most influential classical music brand in the GBA.

These concerts will serve as the HK Phil's GBA premiere outside its regular subscription season. Over the next three years, both parties will join hands to showcase the finest masterpieces and the timeless charm of classical music to audiences throughout the region.

As the first milestone of the renewed partnership, the HK Phil All-Star Chamber Ensemble, composed of principal musicians from every section, will embark on its debut GBA tour this October. The ensemble will foster deeper engagement with local fans, with its Guangzhou stop scheduled at Xinghai Concert Hall during the National Day holiday.

In addition, Xinghai Concert Hall will present an exciting roster of upcoming performances. Leading regional ensembles, including the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, will stage seasonal concerts, special productions, and festival performances. The upcoming spring and summer seasons will feature an array of world-renowned artists: Baroque legend Ton Koopman, acclaimed organists Olivier Latry and Anna Lapwood, preeminent conductors Charles Dutoit, Long Yu, Jonathan Nott, and Johannes Wildner, star violinist Daniel Hope, and celebrated pianists Zhang Haochen and George Li. Together, these distinguished musicians will light up a sensational season of musical feasts.
