On March 3 (the Lantern Festival), residents and tourists walked across Foshan's Tongji Bridge, holding pinwheels and lettuce in their hands, silently chanting the Cantonese saying "Cross Tongji, Worries Flee" to pray for a smooth and safe new year.

"Crossing Tongji" is the most distinctive and influential Lantern Festival activity in Foshan. First built in the Ming Dynasty, Tongji Bridge was once a vital commercial thoroughfare, symbolizing "connecting and benefiting the world". The derived custom of crossing the bridge has been passed down for more than 400 years. This bridge has witnessed the vibrant daily life of the city and the enduring vitality of Lingnan folk culture.

Light rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd. The venue was packed with a sea of people, with visitors shoulder to shoulder. People came from all directions to pray for blessings, take photos, and make charitable donations. Under rows of big red lanterns, there was a sea of pinwheels and countless happy and joyful smiles.

This grand event also showcased the collision between traditional folk customs and modern trends. The robots that just appeared at the Spring Festival Gala joined the activity, bringing energetic dance and kung fu performances.
