During this year's lychee season, Huang Nenfei, a post-90s girl from Maoming, combined ACG (animation, comic, and game) culture with her hometown's lychees. She designed unique ancient-style anime packaging that helped her grandfather sell 1,000 kilograms of lychees, and the related videos received 100,000 likes.
Huang is an experienced ACG culture enthusiast. In 2021, she noticed that traditional lychee packaging was unattractive, so she created anthropomorphic images for different lychee varieties: Guiwei is proud and aloof, while Feizixiao is sweet and charming. She also launched a crossbody "bamboo bag," with pre-sales exceeding 500 pieces.
Over the past four years, she has developed more than 20 kinds of lychee cultural and creative products, including badges, refrigerator stickers, and comics. This year, her works were exhibited at the GAF Art Fair in Shanghai, which led to more fruit farmers seeking cooperation with her.
"Fellow villagers have been growing lychees all their lives, and I want to let more people taste this sweetness," Huang said. She plans to expand her creativity to longans, wampi, and other agricultural products, connecting traditional agriculture with the young market through Gen Z language.
