Shanwei Cathay Marine Ranch began harvesting golden pomfret on the morning of September 15, its first harvest since Typhoon Noul affected the city on July 25.
Each fish weighs around 500 grams. The batch totals about 150,000 kilograms, with a total output value of about 10 million yuan ($1.49 million).
This batch of golden pomfret is of good quality, thanks to the favorable marine conditions off Shanwei's Chengqu District. Lin Chunran, head of Shanwei Cathay Marine Ranch, said the waters around Jiangmu Island are clean, with abundant dissolved oxygen and efficient water exchange. These conditions produce golden pomfret with bright coloration and firm, tender flesh, making the fish popular among buyers.
Shanwei Cathay Marine Ranch currently covers about 100 hectares. It features a recreational offshore platform, semi-submersible liftable cages and deep-water cages designed to withstand strong winds and waves. The ranch farms a variety of aquatic species, including cobia, grouper, golden pomfret, lobster and abalone.
