China's "agarwood hometown" sees first bulk export to Middle East

One ton of agarwood sourced from Maoming, Guangdong, arrived in Saudi Arabia on December 28, achieving the first large-batch export for Dianbai District. The materials were supplied by Guangdong Agribusiness Shuguang State Farm Co., Ltd.

Thanks to its rapid development in recent years, Dianbai's agarwood industry has attracted a growing number of overseas buyers. Yet, exports have remained challenging due to longstanding restrictions on the wild agarwood trade.

Previously, Dianbai has made efforts to address this issue. In September 2024, Dianbai obtained its first permit for agarwood import and export. In April 2025, Dianbai fulfilled its first agarwood raw material export—50 kilograms of agarwood scraps were delivered to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The agarwood raw materials exported this time have obtained legal export approval, and the shipment has generated nearly one million yuan in foreign exchange earnings. As large quantities of Dianbai agarwood enter the Saudi market, it is expected to lay the groundwork for Dianbai to further expand into neighboring markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman, thereby building a market network across the Middle East.
